Gold, Black or Silver: Choosing a Metal Finish for Your Interior

by Alur Decor Team 30 Oct 2026 0 Comments

Choose gold for warm rooms with wood, cream and rich colours; mirror black for modern rooms with white, grey or neutral walls and clean lines; and silver for bright, minimal spaces like bathrooms and offices. If you can't decide, pick one main finish and repeat a second one once or twice in the same room.

The three finishes at a glance

Finish Looks Best with Best rooms
Gold (Oro) Warm, rich, statement Wood, cream, beige, jewel colours, traditional furniture Drawing room, living room, dining
Mirror black (Noir) Quiet, graphic, modern White, grey, travertine, light oak, clean lines Modern lounges, entrances, offices
Polished silver (Argent) Clean, bright, minimal White, grey, glass, chrome fittings Bathrooms, offices, receptions

Gold: warm and statement-making

Gold reflects warm light and makes a room feel rich. It suits Pakistani drawing rooms with wooden furniture, cream walls and colourful rugs, and it stands out in the evening under warm lamps. Our Oro pieces are mirror-polished gold: the Oro Cylinder Vase, the Oro Column Floor Vase, the Oro Tabletop Planter and the Oro Studio Bin.

Mirror black: quiet and modern

Black gives a room contrast and a modern edge without adding colour. It looks sharpest against white, grey or stone and works well in homes with simple, clean-lined furniture. Our Noir pieces are mirror black, and the vases have a slanted rim: the Noir Slant Vase, the Noir Slant Floor Vase and the Noir Tabletop Planter.

Polished silver: clean and bright

Silver matches chrome taps, glass and white tiles, so it suits bathrooms, offices and reception areas. In our range, silver is the Argent Studio Bin, Small 9 in (23 cm) and Large about 13 in (33 cm) tall.

How to mix finishes in one room

  1. Pick a main finish for about two-thirds of the metal pieces.
  2. Repeat the second finish at least twice, so it looks planned rather than accidental.
  3. Keep each group in one finish. A gold vase trio next to a black planter looks more deliberate than a trio of three different metals.
  4. Let other fittings guide you. If your door handles, lamps or frames are already gold or black, follow them.

Quick test before you buy

Look at the room in the evening, under the lights you actually use. Warm yellow bulbs make gold glow; cool white bulbs flatter black and silver.

Frequently asked questions

Is gold or black décor more modern?

Mirror black usually reads as more modern; gold reads as warmer and more classic. Both can look current in simple shapes.

Can I mix gold and silver?

Yes, if one finish leads and the other repeats a couple of times. Mixed metals look intentional when they appear more than once.

Which finish shows fingerprints least?

All mirror-polished finishes show fingerprints, and all wipe clean with a soft cloth. See our stainless steel care guide.
